William Russell Matheson passed away suddenly at his home in Glace Bay on Nov. 26, 2011, at the age of 75 years.
Russell was born in Reserve Mines, Sept. 22, 1936, to the late Alex and Violet (Jackson) Matheson.
He will be sadly missed by his best friend and longtime companion, Marie; his sons, Russell, Arthur, Robert; daughters, Rita, Joanne and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Russell will also be missed by sisters, Diane (Fabian Martin), Christina (Dave Pastuck), Melva (Brian Reid), Donna (Don McEllestrum), Ontario, Ethel (Elmer Cameron); brothers, Dan (Brenda), Alex (Joyce) and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Johnnie, brothers, Sandy, Freddie, Darryll, Wayne, Johnnie, Marvin, Forbes, Keith, Brian, Blair, sisters, Eileen Cameron, Barbara MacPherson and Sharon Matheson.
Visitation for Russell will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will follow Thursday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. in Gordon United Church, Reserve, with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. Interment at a later date in Gordon United Church Cemetery.
