It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Katie LeBlanc, following a brief illness. With her family at her side, she passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Dec. 8, 2011.
Born on June 21, 1918 in Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Joseph and Mary (Marsh) Laffin.
Mama is survived by her six sons, Tommy (Louise), Bill (Aldric), Alder Point, Danny, Bras d’Or, Ron (Pat), Darrell (Laura), Thorald, Ont., Kevin, Alder Point; seven daughters, Patsy (Butch) Pero, Alder Point, Mary (Lawrence) Keeping, Karen (Richard) Finney, Bras d’Or, Linda (Frank) Howell, Sydney River, Donna LeBlanc, Mississauga, Ont., Donica (Eric Stoger) LeBlanc, Thunder Bay, Ont., Heather LeBlanc, Rivers, Man. She was the beloved grandmother to 36 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mama is survived by two brothers, Lawrence (Gert) Laffin, Mill Creek and Gerald (Louise) Confiant, Alder Point and a special sister-in-law and friend, Eunice MacFarlane, Alder Point.
She was predeceased on Dec. 11, 1999, by Andrew, her husband of 62 years; two daughters in infancy, Lois Ann and Sharon; seven sisters, Ann, Laura, Beatrice, Marguerite, Mary, Pearl and Agnes; four brothers, Dan Joe, Hilary, John Thomas and James.
Mama was a deeply religious individual. She was a devout member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Alder Point, where she was a long time member of St. Ann Society.
She enjoyed her membership in the Bras d’Or Seniors and Pensioners Club, where she developed many cherished friendships, and took great pleasure participating in many functions.
Besides spending time with her beloved family Mama enjoyed simple pleasures such as swimming, gardening and bird watching.
After the birth of her last child, Mama worked at the UMF plant in Alder Point for 16 years.
Visitation will be held at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ann Church, Alder Point on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or charity of one’s choice.
