MELANSON, ELLA - Ella Melanson, 80, wife of Claude Melanson formerly of Boudreau Ouest passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Villa Providence Home, Shediac following a lengthy illness. Born May 4, 1931 in Boudreau Office, she was the daughter of the late Philias and Evelyn (Léger). Besides her husband of 53 years Claude, she will be greatly missed by her adoptive daughter Margarette Bernateau, RN of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, her brother Roger Léger (Jacqueline) of Boudreau Ouest, her nephew Dr. Emery Léger and his wife Danie and three grand nieces whom she adored; Boyd and Marion Hendrickson whom she loved and cherished as well as their children and families. As well as a long time very close friend Yvette Dinnie (late Dave). She is predeceased by her goddaughter Bonnie Lirette (February 1, 2009).
Ella retired after 30 years of service with the Federal Government Human Resources. She enjoyed her retirement to the fullest. Gardening was her favourite pastime, she enjoyed nature and the beauty of wild flowers, birds and animals. She loved walking with her dog Susie and loved baking, skiing, swimming, bowling, line dancing and was an ardent walker during the summer and winter months. She enjoyed travelling across Canada and the United States. She spent some time in Florida, but always said "I am a Maritimer". She and her husband Claude enjoyed several bus tours. She was a former member of the CWO of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Pointe du Chêne, as well as St. Joseph Church in Shediac, the club de l'âge d'or, Shediac, and did a great deal of Volunteer work on her own and always helped people in need. She was a Red Cross volunteer with the Meals on Wheels for several years.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Friday, December 16, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Chapel service that will be held at 10:30 a.m. with Father Alphonse Richard officiating.
