SQUIRES - Vivian Squires age 79 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and formerly of Swift Current, Saskatchewan died on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre. She was born at Tuberose, Saskatchewan on February 11, 1932. Vivian grew up on a farm in the Whitebear, Saskatchewan area. When she was old enough she became her dad’s helper, learning to operate the machinery and the varied tasks of farming. Her natural musical talent helped her learn to play several musical instruments and in high school she played in a band for dances. She met the man she would marry in the original “online” chatting, as a telegraph operator for the CNR. They were married in a blizzard in Nov. 29, 1951. A favourite story she liked to tell was they had pancakes for their wedding supper. Every year thereafter they carried on that tradition. Many ventures were undertaken at various points in her life. She saved pennies and dimes to buy her first purebred Hereford heifer, and for several years raised a small herd of purebred cattle. After moving to Swift Current she managed a daycare for a few years until serious health problems forced her to change direction. Undeterred by adversity she found her true vocation, establishing her own business, Lone Tree Graphics and Creative Design. This was her passion for several years until once again her health would interfere and force her to retire. Vivian was also an avid reader, loved trout fishing, gardening, carpentry, nature and wildlife. A favourite outing was a picnic in the quiet countryside. With smiles and tears in our hearts, we remember and admire her unbendable determination to live her life, on her terms. Vivian was predeceased by her husband John (Jack) in 2008 and her parents Cecil and Helen Richardson. She is survived by her children, Susan Klink (Joe) of Shaunavon, Jim (Sharon) of Swift Current, Gordon (Kendra) of Pasadena, California and Bruce of Edmonton, five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristin, Heidi, Valerie and Carling and four great grandchildren Alexandra, Taiyah, Ansley and Tienna. Vivian is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Hanly and Rosemary Weisgerber (Chris) and one brother, Philip Richardson all of Saskatoon as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Interment of Vivian’s cremated remains will take place at Whitebear Cemetery at a later date. Binkley's Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) is in charge of the arrangements.
