GRIFFIN, NORMA N. - On December 21, 2011, at the Grand Manan Hospital, Norma Natalie (Wilcox) (Mullen) Griffin, 92, of Deep Cove, Grand Manan Island, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born February 18, 1919, on Wood Island, Grand Manan, she was a daughter of the late Lewis Wesley "Wes" and Adelaide "Addie" Helena (Shepherd) Wilcox. The epitome of the meaning of the word mother, she was deeply devoted to her children and grandchildren. Norma loved music and poetry, especially reciting the many poems and recitations she had committed to memory during her childhood years on her beloved Wood Island home. She was a member and, for many years a choir member, of Seal Cove Wesleyan Church, and a Reformed Baptist by conviction. As long as her health permitted, she was a regular at the annual Beulah Camp Meetings in Browns Flat. Her survivors include her only daughter, Dale Mullen of Slave Lake, AB; five sons, Sterling (Hannah), Robert, Leslie and Derek (Brenda Lloyd) Mullen, all of Seal Cove, and Mike (Melody) Mullen of Saint John; daughter-in-law, Donna Mullen of Grand Harbour; one brother, Preston (Ruth) Wilcox of Seal Cove; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Norma was predeceased by her first husband, Oscar A. Mullen; her second husband; Mariner L. Griffin; four sons, Jackie, Ronald, Anthony "Tony" and Richard; three sisters, Hilda, Esther and Ruth; and three brothers, Ralph, Ashley and Cline.
The funeral service for Norma will take place on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Seal Cove Wesleyan Church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ward McComiskey officiating. The interment will follow at the Spruce Grove Cemetery. The family has requested that donations may be made to the Charlotte County Cancer Society.
