Gloria Pyke, formerly of 3rd Street in the Hub, passed away on Thursday, December 29th, 2011 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, Gloria was the daughter of Austin McCormick and the late Mary (Campbell) McCormick.
Gloria was a member of St. John's Church. She was employed with Highland Fisheries for 25 years. Gloria was a very compassionate lady who sincerely enjoyed helping others. She loved baking, dancing and spending time with her family. Gloria was also known to have a good sense of humour.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon, Dartmouth; a son, Ernie, Glace Bay; nine siblings, Austin, Ontario, David (Arlette), Glace Bay, Sharon (Don), Ontario, Blair (Susan), Birch Grove, Ricky (Joan), Glace Bay, Mary 'Ninnie', Glace Bay, Kenneth (Barb), Jimmy, Robert, all in Ontario.
Gloria is also survived by several nieces, nephews and her best friend, Glenda Lewis, Glace Bay.
Besides her mother, Gloria was predeceased by a aunt, Christina 'Teenie' Pyke’.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church; followed by interment in the parish cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Gloria, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer's Society.
