GIFFIN, STEPHEN RICHARD - Stephen Richard Giffin ret’d Sergeant – 57, formerly of Halifax, passed away in Amherst at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Born in London, Ontario, he was predeceased by his parents Arthur Giffin (London Ontario) and Ethel Rhodenizer (Bridgewater Nova Scotia). During his 20 year military career, he proudly served RCR in Gagetown, Cyprus and London, CDO Airborne in Edmonton and Petawawa. Following his release, he worked as a private investigator in Ontario ultimately retiring quietly in River Hebert surrounded by his beloved pets and a few close friends. Stephen was an avid hunter but most enjoyed watching the families of deer that came nightly to his property to feast on the grains he left for them. He is survived by his son, Wayne, Ottawa; daughter, Lisa, Burlington; step-father, Patrick Greenwood, Stewiack; three sisters, Diane Giffin-Boudreau (Gerry) Hubbards, Darlene Davis (Paul) Hubley and Sharon Hogue Tantallon; brother, Patrick Greenwood (Jeannie) Halifax; grandchildren, Benjamin, Logan and Jonathan.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Jones Family Funeral Homes, Amherst. There will be no visitation or service by request. Burial will take place in Ontario, officiated by a military padre. Special thanks are extended to the staffs of 6100 Moncton Hospital and the Medical Unit Cumberland for the outstanding support provided to Stephen during his illness. The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Henry O’Brien and Nicholas Gower for their unending support of Stephen and care of his property and special companion, Molly (goat). A big thank you as well to Tammy Faddelle and her daughters for the care of Missy and Buster (dogs) and their significant support throughout his illness.
