Rolf Hegge was born September 6, 1923 in Hundrop, Norway to Redvald and Karen Hegge. Rolf was raised on the family farm and received his High School education as an agriculturalist.
On December 31, 1948 Rolf married Anne Lovise Hofstad and soon after two children, Roar and Magna, were born. In 1954 Rolf and Anne moved to Canada lured by stories of free land told by a farmer visiting back in Norway. They settled first at Valhalla Center, AB for three years where son Olaf was born. The family then moved to Dawson Creek, BC in 1957 where son John was born. Soon they bought and broke land west of Dawson Creek where they lived and farmed for 22 years.
Besides the farm, Rolf worked full time in construction. In 1979 Rolf established Hegge Construction beginning with houses and growing into a successful commercial construction company. At age 66 he retired and he and Anne moved into Dawson Creek.
I was lucky enough to know the Chief for a small fraction of his eighty eight years. From a young age he instilled on all us grandchildren the importance of a strong work ethic, slowing down and doing things right the first time, never quitting until the job is done and respecting those around you. Most importantly he made sure that each and every one of us understood the importance of family and friends.
Grandpa always enjoyed bringing life to this Earth, aside from the beautiful and large family that he nurtured for many years, he also had a knack for plant life. His hard work and stubbornness for perfection always yielded a strong crop. He also had a delicate touch that he used every spring and summer in his beautiful flower beds and bountiful gardens.
Rolf passed away on December 11, 2011 in Dawson Creek, BC at the age of 88 years. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm from Reynars Funeral Chapel. Pastor Tim Johnson officiated. Interment was held in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.
Rolf was predeceased by his parents, Redvald and Karen, brothers: Sverre, Kristoffer and Olav and sister, Clara Bö.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Anne, Children: Roar (Gaylene), Magna, Olaf (Arla) & John (Dorinda), Grandchildren: Amber (Luke), Brandi, Chris (Ada), Mike (Liz), Clayton (Lynsey), Ashley (Kevin), Cody (Samantha), Chad (Alexandra), Great-Grandchildren: Taylar, Kingsley, Traice, Nina, Caylie & Ryan, as well as by one sister, Hilda Orre, two brothers, Oddvar and Johannes Hegge, six sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
