MOUNT THOM – Havelock Burton Allen, 88, Mt. Thom, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 20, 2009, at his apartment in Westville.
Born in Port Greville, he was a son of the late Earl and Maude (Parker) Allen.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, was well known in Pictou County for his carpentry services, and worked at the Pictou Shipyards for over 40 years. He enjoyed baking, old-time dances and woodworking as a pastime.
He is survived by daughters, Sheila Lake (Tom Chappell), Amherst; Rosemary Sutherland (Greg), Manitoba; Tammy Villiacrusis (Victor), Calgary; sons, David (Nancy), Loch Broom; Gene (Arthene), Hopewell; Curtis, Edmonton; Jeff (Nancy), Truro; grandson Jason (April), Mt. Thom; and 15 other grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth "Betty" MacDonald; son, Larry, and seven brothers and seven sisters.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.
A public memorial service will be held two o’clock Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Father Evo DiPierro officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the N.S. Alzheimer’s Society.
Family wish to extend a special thank you to all care staff and also to Catherine Kowalski, which took great care of Dad over the past couple of years.
