Alice Elizabeth Muir of The Briarlea and formerly of West Lane, Moncton, N.B., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at The Moncton Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Lauchlin and Sara (Brown) MacDonald. She grew up in Baddeck and was a graduate of Baddeck High School. Alice was also an alumna of Nova Scotia Teachers College and the University of Moncton. She taught school in Baddeck for four years and later at Queen Elizabeth School, Moncton for thirty years. Alice was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, a life member of the AMS, and a former member of the Autumn Club. She had been a member of Greenwood United Church in Baddeck. Alice was a member of the New Brunswick Retired Teachers Association and a member of TOPS International for 30 years.
Alice is survived by her sons, Fred (Joan), Halifax, N.S., Brian (Sandra), Bedford, N.S., and Alan, Moncton, N.B.; grandchildren, Sarah (Garnet Wright), Erin (Derek Yu), Catherine, and Alex; and great-grandson, Macade Wright. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Wilson (Warren), London, Ont., and her brother, Edwin MacDonald (Audrey), Whitby, Ont., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, W. Fred Muir in 1968; brother, Sandy (Daisy) and sister Lillian in infancy.
Visitation will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Rd., Moncton (506-858-1995) on Thursday from 7-9 p.m., with the funeral service to take place on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Dr. Martin Kreplin officiating. Reception in the funeral home reception centre following the service. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery.
