McEwen, Olive ( nee Curry )
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Olive McEwen in Oakville, Ontario on January 12, 2012 after 99 years of health, happiness and contribution to her family, friends and community in both Burlington and Moose Jaw, Sask. Olive was born in Tuxford, Sask. to Charles and Maggie Curry in 1912, and moved to Moose Jaw in 1920. She married Clifford James McEwen in 1932 and had two sons, Lloyd and Donald and moved to Burlington in 1993.bOlive worked at T.E. Eaton Company in Moose Jaw until her retirement in 1972. She was an active member of The Odd Fellows Rebekah Lodge and started volunteer work for the Red Cross Society in 1939, receiving the Badge of Service Citation in 1979 and was made a Lifetime Member of the Society in 1993 when she received the Commemorative Medal from the Governor General of Canada for her dedicated service. Predeceased by her husband Clifford, son Lloyd and sister Pearl Sidley, she is survived by her son Donald and his wife Susan, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital for their tireless devotion to their duties and patients and the kindness the have shown to Olive over the years and the caring staff at the Oakville Senior Centre Residence. Cremation has taken place and internment will be with her husband and son in Moose Jaw as per her wishes.
