Helen "Betty" Middlemiss

MIDDLEMISS, HELEN ELIZABETH (BETTY) - The death of Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Middlemiss, age 98, of 221 Rose Court, Wentworth Lodge, 41 South Street West, Dundas ON occurred at Wentworth Lodge on Thursday January 19, 2012. Born on October 25, 1913 in Fredericton NB, she was the second of three children of the late John Ray and Laura Myrtle (Coburn) Walker. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Laara Jansen (Janet Elizabeth Middlemiss), the husband of her eldest daughter, Frank Lawson, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Robert Coburn Walker and John Frederick Walker, her husband Donald Alma Middlemiss and her eldest daughter Judith Ann (Judy) Lawson. Betty attended Normal School in Fredericton and taught for several years in rural New Brunswick schools before accepting a teaching position in a primary school in Fredericton. In 1938 she married and moved to Milltown NB where her husband taught high school. While her husband was overseas during the war she completed two of three years of nurses training in Montreal. After the war she focused on her life as a wife and mother and in later years as grandmother for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was the communicator at the centre of her extended family who maintained loving contact with friends and family throughout all the decades of her life.
Funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, George Street, Fredericton at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Interment will take place in Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery in the spring. Reception to follow at St. Paul’s United Church. Private family visitation at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street (506-458-9170) on Tuesday January 24. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donation to the capital fund of St. Paul’s United Church or to a charity of your choice.
