We, the family of Eric Lidstone, are deeply saddened to announce his passing away at home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on January 27, 2012. Eric was born in Corner Brook, NL, on May 1, 1933, the youngest son of Theophilus and Annie (Dalton) Lidstone. At the age of 18, he joined the Canadian Forces to serve overseas during the Korean War. He resided most of his life in Stephenville, NL, where he and his wife, Mary Ann (Cunard), raised their family of four: Carolyn, Dwayne (Dember), Emma, and Eric (Pamela). During those years, he was employed in the plumbing and heating business, and at the end of his residency in Stephenville, had operated his own business. Following his relocation to Halifax, he continued his employment in this field with Southwest Leasing and R. Ghosn. Late in life, Eric developed an interest in genealogy. In 2005, in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, he, along with family members, travelled to Kingsbridge in Devon, UK, an area where the Lidstone family has origins. He also spent many happy times at his cottage (nicknamed “The Ponderosa”) in Brig Bay on the Northern Peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador. Also left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his two grandchildren, Samantha (Dwayne) and Isaac (Emma), sister-in-law Vera (Ralph) Lidstone, sister-in-law Hepsey (Heber) Sheppard, brothers-in-law Grant (Elsie) Cunard, Wallace (Rita) Cunard, Eli (Phyllis) Cunard, Eric (Ann) Cunard, Terry Cunard and Don (Elizabeth) Gould. Eric is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends with special mention of nieces Paula (Wade) Gould and Sandra (Clyde) O’Quinn, nephew Wallace (Diane) Cunard and long-time friends Calvin and Millie Dalley. A quiet and private man with a great sense of humor, Eric was a wonderful support always to his family and will be greatly missed, especially by his loving wife and constant companion of 56 years, Mary. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be scheduled in Stephenville early in 2012.
