WOLFATER - Peter Roy Wolfater passed away on Jan. 21, 2012 at Cypress Lodge in Maple Creek. He was born Feb. 2, 1920 to Otto and Margaret Wolfater in Gull Lake, Sask. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 50 years Christina (Zilm), son Lorne, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Frank Selmam, brother John (died in infancy), brothers-in-law Dave Ferguson and Fred Zilm, grandson Jason and granddaughter-in-law Marcie. He is survived by son Ron (Robin) - Rajanne (Grant), Renee (Kerry), Bradley (Erin); son Garry (James) - Clair and Emma; son Brian (Kaye) - Brent and Lee; daughter Theresa (John) Redstone - Bert (Amy), Jenny (Robbie), Kate (Collin); son Raymond (Vivian) - Mark (Trisha), Tiffany (Dustin) and 14 great grandchildren. Roy was raised on the family farm, going to school at Beaver Dam. When World War II came along, he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce where he was an airplane mechanic, after the war he met his wife Chris, they lived in Calgary for a few years where he was a painter. They moved back to the farm and Roy continued farming and raising cattle, at 85 years of age he was still picking up grain on the go from the combine. Roy was a member of the Association for the Mentally Challenged and helped get the Opportunities Inc. workshop and group home built in Maple Creek. Roy was general leader for the Tompkins 4-H Beef Club and an assistant leader for the Tompkins 4-H Woodworking Club. Roy was councilor for RM of Piapot and a member of Tompkins branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. In later years, Roy traveled with Chris to many destinations for warm winter holidays, enjoyed playing cards with many friends, he always made a little on their trips to Vegas. He also enjoyed curling, fishing, with many a trip to northern Sask., hunting, shooting gophers in the spring and checking the cattle in later years were his hobbies. At Roy’s request there will be no funeral service. A memorial tea will be held at Tompkins Community Centre on Feb. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. and interment to be held at a later date with the family.
