Owen “crossed the bar” peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2012, aged 90 years. Beloved husband of Doreen (Johnston) for 65 years; loving father of Elizabeth McCuaig (Ian), Peter (Ann) and the late Robert Steele; proud grandfather of Jasmine and Zachary Steele; dear brother of Isabelle Atkinson (late David) and James H. Steele (Frances) both of Newfoundland.
Owen was an electrical engineer, Cmdr of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club (1989-1990) and a proud veteran of the British Royal Navy, serving on minesweepers during WWII.
Friends may attend a Memorial Service at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 323 Simcoe St., Niagara-on-the-Lake on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Barb McGale officiating. Reception to follow. Inurnment to take place in Newfoundland.
