On Jan. 27, 2012, at age of 67, Loretta Rae passed away in the An Cala palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness. Rae was surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney, Rae was the daughter of the late Reginald and Jean (Ferguson) Clarke.
Her whole life was spent caring for others and was the primary caregiver for her late mother and father and also for her aunt, Eva (Clarke) Crooks.
During her life she worked in retail at the Red and White Store, as well as running a daycare for many of the children in the Coxheath area.
Rae was a giving person and volunteered her time to many organizations including the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association, and she was a 40-year member of the Coxheath Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an adherent of the former St. Marks Church in Coxheath.
Surviving are her brothers, John, Blair (Joanne) and Walter (Debbie). She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews as well as a number of grandnieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brother, Robert Wayne in infancy and her sister-in-law, Helen (Ellis) Clarke.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Jackson for all of his time during this difficult period for our family.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at the Church of Christ The King, George Street, Sydney, with the Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Following the service, a tea will be served at the St. Georges hall.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Family flowers only. Any donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Unit or the Canadian Transplant Association.
Rae was a kind and caring person, who always saw the good in people and was willing to lend a hand when needed, she will be missed by all.
