PINEO, Donald Reginald — 71, of Mantua, Hants County, NS passed away on January 28, 2012 peacefully at home with family at his side. Born on August 27, 1940 in Wolfville, Kings County, he was the son of the late Doris Pineo but was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Annie and George Pineo of Upper Burlington, Hants Co., NS. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley Marie (Blackburn) Pineo, his sons Donald Jr., George ( Vivianne) and his daughter, Sherri, who was the light of his life, and her partner, Justin Bishop; his brother, Floyd and adopted brother, Earl. He was predeceased by his sister, Rosie and his adopted brothers and sisters, James, June, Gloria and Lorraine. Donald was a well-known bricklayer in the area and owned and ran D.R. Pineo Masonry Ltd. for most of his adult life. Before forming his own company, he worked for several masonry companies: Earl Carey and Sons, Maritime Foundation; Leo Goyer Masonry and Reliable Masonry. Donnie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He had a fishing boat on the Avon River which was popular during Wharf Days when he took people out for rides on the water. He belonged to 4H when he was in school and was a member of the Brooklyn Fire Department for about 10 years. He was the Chair of the Building Committee at the Poplar Grove Community Hall. Donnie loved to sit back and listen to his friends play country music. Donnie was known by many through his plants in his greenhouse but mostly he will be remembered as the man with the hundreds of blooming peonies across the front of his property. A celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Brooklyn Fire Department Civic Centre. Rev Garnet Parker officiating. Burial was at the Newport Landing Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Brooklyn Fire Department or charity of your choice.
