Jean Scott
SCOTT, JEAN ARDITH (nee O’HARA) - 1937 - 2012 - There’s another beautiful star that has joined the heavens. With great courage and grace, Jean Scott passed away peacefully February 2, 2012 surrounded by the love of her family. Born Ardith Jean O’Hara in Fredericton, New Brunswick, March 11, 1937, the youngest girl in a family of nine children, she married the love of her life, Gregory Scott, on October 4, 1958. Together they embarked on a wonderful adventure and shared their kind, gentle spirits with everyone they met. With their young family, Jean and Greg moved to Tsawwassen in 1971 and immediately immersed themselves in the community by joining the parish of St. David’s Anglican Church. They also opened a small coffee and gift store in Tsawwassen which they ran for several years; Jean loved greeting and helping customers choose their favourite coffee or special treat. As a long standing resident of Tsawwassen, Jean took an active role in many community organizations; she was a member of the Tsawwassen Tennis Club for many years and could handily beat any of the family in a game of singles or doubles. Jean was also active in the sorority Beta Sigma Phi and embraced each role with enthusiasm and tireless dedication. Wonderful dancers, Jean and Greg loved to “kick up their heels” with the Tsawwassen Tunnel Twirlers. As a Brownie and Guide leader, Jean participated in various outings and camping trips with the Guiding packs, helping them explore the beauty of British Columbia forests. With a desire to help others, Jean volunteered with Hospice and donated her time and love to residents at Kinsmen House. Through the years Jean became an integral part of St. David’s Anglican Church, working in several different ministries within the parish, and an active participant in the church choir and altar guild. Jean always maintained a love of music and dance, and together with Greg, enjoyed attending plays and musical concerts, whenever she could. Above all else, Jean’s true passion was her family. She loved gathering the family together no matter what the occasion, large or small, and would always find an extra place at the table when needed. Jean’s final years were spent, with her husband Greg, at Augustine House in Ladner, and most recently Morgan Place Care Facility in South Surrey. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the outstanding staff of Morgan Place for the tremendous compassion and care given to Jean during her final months. Jean is survived by her husband Greg, her children, Brenda (Terry), Karen (Dale), Ken (Donna), Jeff (Carolyn), eleven grandchildren, Lisa, Victoria, Scott, Brittany, Kyle, Brandon, Jenna, Hailey, Greg, Nick and Danielle, two great-grandchildren, Derek and Alyssa, sisters Dorothy (Angus), Katherine, Noreen, and brothers, Paul and Gerald (Beverly).
A Memorial Service for Jean will take place Monday, February 20, 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. David’s Anglican Church, 1115 – 51A Street in Tsawwassen. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society of BC are appreciated. On-line condolences may be placed at: www.deltafuneral.ca. Delta Funeral Home (604) 946-6040
