THINGELSTAD - Glen Calvin Thingelstad (1929 - 2012) age 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Glen was born on August 7, 1929, to Christian & Lauella Thingelstad, in Tiger Hills, SK, where he also received his education. He farmed briefly, and then went to work in the Oilfields in Alberta. On December 23, 1950, Glen married Clara Pawluk. Glen went to work for a contracting outfit to build power lines. He then bid-out for a Sask Power Assistant District operator in Swift Current. In 1956, Glen & Clara moved to Herbert and Glen worked as the District operator for Sask Power for 35 years. Glen was a life-long member of the Herbert Lions Club, as well as a member of the Eagles, Legion and Elks. He was one of the founding members of Toastmasters in Swift Current. He was also a volunteer Fireman in Herbert for many years. In 1984, Glen retired. Glen & Clara moved to Beaver Flat Resort and enjoyed their lake front cabin, golfing, fishing, boating and their many friends. In 2009, they moved into Swift Current. Dad’s greatest joy was life itself, and he lived everyday as if it were his last. He loved and enjoyed his wife, Clara, for 61 years, treasured his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his many, many friends. Dad left us a legacy…a curiosity about life, a hunger for knowledge and recreation, a passion for music, sports and the outdoors. An example of life whose riches owe little to money, a sense that anything is possible if you work hard. A very simple, but caring man. Glen will be remembered by his wife of 61 years, Clara; son, Lauris (Judy) - Aaron (Kim) and Sofia, Dana (Hein), Wigandt, Hendrik, Kateryna, Melissa (Ian); son, Kim (Nancy) - Ory and Tyson; daughter, Holly (Barrie), Starr (Jeff), Bryn and Addison, Tia, Tawn (Jon); daughter, Karen (Ray) - Jeff (Tina) and Kayla; his brother, Jim (Dorothy); sisters, Sibby and Linda (Howard) and families. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian & Lauella Thingelstad; and granddaughter, Janelle Tegan Leisle. Glen had many friends, he welcomed all of his children’s friends and more to be part of his family. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 3, 2012, at 1:30 pm from the Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK. The pianist for the service was Cindy Mathies with a musical tribute brought by Aaron Thingelstad (grandson). “How Great Thou Art” and “Shall We Gather at the River” were sung by the congregation. Tributes to Dad were shared by Lauris Thingelstad (son) and Holly Wiebe (daughter) and Grandchildren Memories brought by Kayla Leisle (granddaughter). The ushers in the church were Niel Block and Dan Schapansky. The Private Family Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery with the following grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Aaron Thingelstad, Dana deKlerk, Ory Thingelstad, Jeff Leisle, Tyson Thingelstad and Jon Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were, Doug Osmond, Donna & Donnie Lopeter. In memory of Glen Thingelstad, donations made to the Herbert Fire Brigade would be appreciated by the family.
