George Forsyth
FORSYTH, GEORGE - Sadly, his family announces the death of George Forsyth, Fredericton, at the Chalmers Hospital, on Sunday February 12. George was born in Scotland in 1920 and came to Canada, with his parents, as a small child, growing up in St. Lambert across the river from Montreal. He graduated from St. Lambert High School and attended lectures at Sir George Williams College in Montreal. During the war, he joined the RCAF, and earned his wings as a Flying Officer. George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan (Vaughan), daughter Elizabeth Burgess and her husband Ian, three grandchildren, Katherine, Jennifer and Adam, Fredericton to who he was a loving Papa. Also, his sister Betty Burton and her husband Randy (Fitzrandolf) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, sister-in-law Betty Forsyth, Vancouver, his sister-in-law Margaret Jangaard and her husband Peter of Halifax NS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Elizabeth(Cherrie) and George Forsyth, his only son George V. Forsyth of Winnipeg, killed in a car accident in June 2010 and his brother William (Billy), Vancouver. George was a Forestry Engineer, graduating from UNB in 1948. He worked in forestry for six years, moving to Dartmouth in 1956. In 1967 the family moved to Fredericton with L.E. Shaw Ltd. George loved exploring the lakes and rivers of New Brunswick in his canoe and loved the woods of the Maritimes. He built a log cabin at Musquodoboit Harbour NS and changed the landscape completely with his gardening, paths and flowering shrubs. “The Harbour” is a salt water inlet on the Eastern Shore of NS. George had a lifelong love of books and reading. He thoroughly enjoyed his visits to the Fredericton Public Library and the Public Library at the Harbour as well.George was involved in organizing the Atlantic Masonry Association with Bill Young. The Association is concerned with the promotion of brick in the construction industry. He was a longtime member of the Fredericton Garrison Club.
There will be no visitation. The family will meet those attending the funeral at a reception following the service. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the McAdam Funeral Home, with the Reverend H.G. MacKenzie officiating on Wednesday, February 15 at 2 PM. For those who wish donations in George’s name can be made to The Heart and Stroke Society of NB, The Everett Chalmers Hospital, the Fredericton YMCA or a charity of the donors choice. George’s ashes will be buried beside those of his son in the Community Cemetery at Musquodoboit Harbour in a graveside service later in the summer. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Chalmers Hospital 4 NW for their loving care. George’s comfort was their concern.
