Sutherland, Lloyd MacLeod – Truro.
Lloyd MacLeod Sutherland passed away peacefully at the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, N.S. on February 12, 2012, with his loving wife of 56 years, Eleanor (Woodside) by his side. Lloyd was born in New Glasgow, N.S. on February 23, 1931 and was the son of the late J. Robert and Margaret “Peg” Sutherland. “Suds”, as he was affectionately known by many, received his education at Mount Allison University, an institution he ardently supported as a proud Allisonian. He taught at schools in Sherbrooke, Truro, Brookfield and Hilden including twenty-four years as Vice-Principal and Principal of Truro Junior High. His love for sports followed him throughout his life as a track and field, cross country running, volleyball and basketball coach and as a basketball and volleyball official. His teams won numerous provincial titles and he was awarded many honours for his dedication to sports in the province of Nova Scotia. He was named to the honour role of the Truro Sport Heritage Society Honour Roll and inducted into the Colchester County Sport Hall of Fame. He was Past President and a charter member of the Atlantic Tool Collector’s Association and a long time elder of St. Andrews United Church, Truro, N.S. His greatest pride was his children Ron (Jane), Sackville, N.B., Derek (Ann), Edmonton and Janice (Brian), Calgary. In his later years, his greatest joy was supporting and following the accomplishments of his seven grandchildren - Sarah, Jeffrey, Christopher, Gregory, Breana, Thomas and Jodi. He was predeceased by his brothers Claude and Arnold. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and many friends in Pictou County where he enjoyed his summers at Sinclair’s Island and Black Point. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, N.S. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street, Truro, N.S. B2N 3K8, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating.
