With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Philip Nash at the Glace Bay Hospital on Feb. 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., he was the son of the late Effie (Fricker) and Herbert Nash.
Philip served in the army and was a retired coal miner.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing all his life and attending card games at the Pensioners Club and St. Leo’s. He was a member of the Glace Bay Seniors and Pensioners Club (past president) and branch 3 Royal Canadian Legion.
He is survived by son, Charles ‘Butch’ (Linda) Kinslow and their son, Kevin; son, Herb (Donna) and their children, Natalie and Charles; daughter-in-law, Chris and her children, Fabian and Kelly; daughter, Phyllis (Wayne) Wolfe and their daughter, Angela; son, John (Julia) and their children, Lissa and Stephen; daughter, Joann (Berkley) Breen; daughter, Charlene (Gary) Hunter and their children, Kyle and John; son, Philip (Sherry) and their son, Philip; and daughter, Theresa Krewenki and her children, Alisha, Heather and Ryan. Philip is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Joseph, Matthew, Shirley, Bryan, Stephanie, Brady, Kaiden, Karis, Payton, Gabrielle and Kaeleigh. Surviving also are sisters, Jean Malabar, Eileen MacLennan, Barbara Andrews, Ida Kinslow; brothers, Reuban, George (Pat), Rev. Arthur (Emily), Charles, Les (Ruth); and sisters-in-law, Florence ‘Nook’ Nash and Gladys Nash.
Besides his parents, Philip was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley in 2007, his son, Fabian, granddaughter, Kim, brothers, James, Allie, Jack, Herb, Clayton and Wallace and sisters, Mae, Delores, Margaret and Lillian.
Visitation will take place in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Wednesday, Feb. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
