
Viola Joan Hatfield
Hatfield, Viola Joan, 78, Bible Hill, passed away Monday February 13, 2012 at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Stella (Purdy) Carmichael. Joan was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro, Ladies Auxiliary and the Truro and District Lions Club. She was a telephone operator having worked for MT & T for 35-years, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by her husband of 57-years, Albert Hatfield; sons, Todd (Cheryl) of Five Islands, Shawn of Sparwood, BC, Jeff (Debbie) of Australia; daughters, Sharon Boutilier (James) of Truro, Angela Jordan (Dennis Ryan) of Halifax, Amy Cox (Rollie) of Truro, Alechia Archibald (Peter) of Truro; 17-grandchildren; 20-great-grandchildren; brothers, Frederick Carmichael (Sylvia) of Lr. Sackville, Stanley Carmichael (Gloria) of Dauphine, MB, Nicholas Carmichael (Eliz) of St. Catherine’s, ON; sister Betty-Lou Thompson of Truro; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Warren.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, and from where the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro, Ladies Auxiliary, will conduct a Ladies Auxiliary Tribute service on Thursday evening at 7 pm, directly followed by the Truro and District Lions Club Tribute Service. Funeral service will take place on Friday, Feb. 17th at 2 pm in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Cory Somers will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. Family flowers only. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro Ladies Auxiliary or to the Truro and District Lions Club.
