TRURO Obituary for E. Barbara MacNutt (Feb 21, 1926 - Feb 15, 2012)
Born in Summerville, Hants Co., Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Etta Allen, and one of 12 children. She worked with her husband for many years at MacNutt’s Superette, which they owned and operated. She was a loyal member of Brunswick St. United Church, where she sang in the choir for thirty years, served on several boards, was a life member of U.C.W, past member of Colchester I.O.D.E. and an active member of Truro K-ette Club. After retirement, she and her husband, John, spent 17 winters in Zephyrhills, Florida where they enjoyed many wonderful friends and activities. In her final 3 years, Barbara was a resident at Parkland and Cedarstone Enhanced Care where she received loving care and attention from the wonderful staff there. Surviving is John, her devoted husband of 65 years; sons Allen (Linda) of Truro, and John (Debbie), Edmonton, daughters Beverley (Keith Snowdon), Bible Hill, and Vicki (Bruce Pate), Milwaukee. Also survived by 9 dearly loved grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Susan McLaren, Ottawa. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home on Friday Feb. 17 (6:30-8:30pm) with a Memorial Service on Saturday at 2pm, also at Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, in Truro with Rev. David Lutes officiating, assisted by Rev. Boyd Vincent. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Pictou Co. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their thanks to all who cared for her, including Dr. Bruce Phillips, and the outstanding staff at Parkland and Cedarstone.
