Marc André Robichaud, 36, of Meteghan Centre, passed away in ICU at QE II in Halifax Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, after a short but courageous battle with lymphoma.
Born in Yarmouth on Sept. 28, 1975, he was a son of Camille and Marie-Colombe (Chiasson) Robichaud.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his fiancée, Kimberley Wotherspoon; sister, Lise, all of Meteghan Centre; brother, Daniel, Dartmouth; nieces, Godchild Émilie and Gwen; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marc graduated a University Scholar from Acadia University in 1997 winning the Bishop Medal for the highest GPA in the Faculty of Professional Studies as well as the Business School Medal for the highest GPA in the Acadia School of Business.
Marc was a dedicated individual who loved his Acadian community. Being the fifth generation to run UJ Robichaud TIM-BR Mart, he worked in all aspects of the business since he was 14. One of his dreams came true when he opened his new store in Church Point in 2011.
He served on the board of directors of ABSDA from 2002 to 2005, was president of the Chambre de commerce de Clare from 2005 to 2010, vice president of the Conseil de dévelopment de la Nouvelle-Écosse from 2008 to 2009, a current board member of the Caisse Populaire de Clare and member of the financial committee of the local radio station, CIFA.
Cape Breton had a special place in his heart. It was a second home to Marc, who spent many vacations in Petit-Étang (where his mother was born) and at the Gaelic College, where he attended summer and March Break sessions regularly.
Marc proposed to his fiancée Christmas Eve in the hospital and they got to have a symbolic wedding at Marc’s bedside on January 10th before he passed away.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 14 in Meteghan. Burial followed in the parish cemetery after the procession took Marc for one last trip to UJ’s in Meteghan Center.
Donations may still be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
