It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lucy Alexandra Penney of Curran Street, New Waterford, on Feb. 15, 2012, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Lucy, born in Newfoundland, was a daughter of the late Luther and Miriam (Verge) Smith.
She was a devout member of Calvin United Church. She enjoyed attending Aging Gracefully.
Lucy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. One of her greatest joys in life was to be surrounded by family, friends and neighbours. Many hours were spent around the kitchen table enjoying great food, hot tea, conversation and hospitality. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing cards and fishing with her husband, Albert.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Betty (Gary) Micholsky, Nellie (Ken) Biggers, both of New Waterford, Dapne (Bill) Stevenson, Dartmouth; son-in-law, Charlie McPhee (Catherine); sister, Daisy Hoddinott, Ontario; grandchildren, Derek, Penny, Kim, Kari, Michelle, Jason, Nathan, Brandon; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; many nieces and nephews and close friend, Chris Burke.
Lucy was predeceased by her loving husband, Albert, of 55 years, daughter, Judy McPhee, one son in infancy, two brothers, Ross Smith and Utley Smith, one sister, Eloise Martin.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will take place Sunday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Lucy will be taken to the church at noon on Sunday. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at Calvin Hall.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Calvin United Church Choir.
