James Cameron
CAMERON, JAMES - James L. (Jim) Cameron, Truro Heights, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 while snowmobiling with friends at Folly Mountain. Born February 13, 1940 in Chatham, NB, he was the eldest son of the late Frank and Vera (Gillis) Cameron. He was a Chartered Accountant and was in public practice since 1959 with the original and successor public accountant firms. His prime recreation was snowmobiling and he was a founding member of Fundy Trail Snowmobile and Recreation Fund and served continually on the executive since inception. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Truro since 1966 and served as president in 1980-81. He was the recipent of a Paul Harris Fellowship and the 4 Avenues of Service Award. He was a past member of the Truro Golf Club and the Truro Curling Club where he served as treasurer. He was past president of the United Way of Truro and was treasurer of the capital campaign to raise funds for the new Truro hospital. He enjoyed spending time with Lynne, especially at the “camp” at Hart Lake, and was treasurer of the Hart Lake Property Association for many years. He was a member of First United Church where he served as a Steward and Trustee. Jim is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lynne; daughters, Sheila Cameron (Keith Godfrey), Moncton, and their children Laura and Taylor; Karen Cameron, Kitchener, ON and her children, Sarah, Emily, Jessica, Rebecca, Mei Ling and MacLaughlin; sons, Craig, Truro; Wade (Kim), Orange, Mass and their children, Paige, Mason and Evan; brothers, Archi, Montreal; Brian (Anne), Kentville; Lloyd, Miramichi; sisters, Ethel (John) Lockerbie, Miramichi; Edie (Peter) Gammon, Bathurst; Lois (Jim) Keoughan, Bathurst; Jean (Ray) Clements, Windsor, NS; mother-in-law, Hazel Peppard, Truro Heights; brother-in-law, William (Bill) Walls, Miramichi. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Agnes Walls; sister-in-law, Dianne Cameron; brother-in-law, Dale Peppard.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, where Jim’s family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm on Tuesday, February, 21. Funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, February 22, in the First United Church, Prince Street Truro, Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating, assisted by Rev. David MacNaughton, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment to be held at a later date in the Plains Road Cemetery in Debert. Family flowers only. If desired donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Prostate Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Colchester Regional Hospital, Rotary Club of Truro or to the First United Church in Truro.
