Wesley Stapleford

STAPLEFORD, WESLEY "WICK" GEORGE - The passing of Cpl. Wesley “Wick” Stapleford occurred on February 18th 2012 at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton. Wick was a very well-liked person who had many friends through his life. He was born in Sussex NB on June 24th 1915 and didn’t quite make it to his 97th birthday. He was the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Coates) Stapleford of wards Creek NB. He was the last remaining member in his family. He was predeceased by mother, father, three sisters and four brothers which one of them was Reginald Stapleford sharp Shooter. Wick was also predeceased by his first wife Hazel Anderson of Sussex NB from whom his children were; James Stapleford (predeceased) Marlyne Hill (Wayne) of Fredericton, Gary Stapleford (Elaine) of Fredericton, Jack of Fredericton and granddaughter Vanessa. His second wife Betty MacLean Stapleford and step children Garry, Everett, Wayne, Robert and Greg MacLean all of Fredericton. He is also survived by several grandchildren, Scott, Darren, Patrick Hill all of Fredericton, Jamie and Luke Stapleford, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; Rick Stapleford of Sussex, David Stapleford of Nashua New Hampshire, Donna, Carol, Judy, Janet, one sister in law Mary Dean of Fredericton; one special nephew David Stapleford (Roseanne) from Nashua New Hampshire. He loved animals, especially Jazz who came to see him often with grandson Darren Hill. He loved fishing, Hunting, boating, water skiing, motor cycle riding and the great outdoors. Wick served with the NB Rangers overseas in 1943 and in 1941 was serving in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. After the war ended, he went back with the United Nations to the Middle East for one year. He retired in 1980 from civil service in Oromocto. He was a member of the royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 and Baptist by faith.
Family will receive friends at Bishop’s Funeral Home 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 1 to 5 PM. A Graveside service will be held in the spring in Sussex. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Veteran’s Health Unit or a charity of the donor’s choice.
