McLELAN, THOMAS - Thomas Wilson McLelan, 71, Pugwash and Oxford, NS, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 at home. Born in Montreal, he was a son of the late Dr. Gerald Wilson and Miriam (Chapman) McLelan. Tom attended Oxford Regional High School and then Mount Allison University. He graduated from UNB Fredericton with a B.Sc. in Forestry, and later from State University of New York (SUNY) and Syracuse University with a double Masters in Science and Forestry Management. In 1999, he obtained an Executive MBA from Saint Mary’s University. Tom was President of the former Cobequid Lumber Company, McLelan Lumber Company, and Flatiron Forestry Products. He served for many years as President of Maritime Lumber Bureau, President of NS Forest Products Association, and President of Canadian Pulp and Paper Association (Woodland Division). Tom worked with Canadian Executive Services Overseas (CESO) in many foreign countries. He was also an active member of the Northumberland Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, boating, snowmobiling and hunting. Tom is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Fullerton; daughter, Carolyn McLelan, Eastern Passage; son, Steven McLelan, Oxford; grandchildren, Stephanie McLelan, London, ON; Jordan McLelan, Amherst; Dexter Van Dam, Sackville, NB; great-granddaughter Makenna, Amherst; sisters, Sandra (John Michael) Walsh, Liverpool; Carol (Dr. Ernest) Ewaschuk, Oakville, ON; brother, Hugh (Lane), Chester; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, followed immediately by funeral service at 4 p.m., all in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford (902-447-2930).
