Peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Monday, February 20, 2012, of Mr. Eugene L. Rooney of Stratford in his 76th year. Beloved husband of the late Florence A. Rooney (nee Doucette) and dear father of Elaine (Bob) Snazelle, Bill (Paula), Tammy (Art) Burke, Pam (Dellar) Duckworth, Wade, Shayne (Marie McGuigan) and Amanda (Anthony Fisher). He is also survived by 10 loving grandchildren Cynthia (Conway) Barton, Shawn Rooney (Angela Rush), Amy MacAusland, Brad and Brandon Burke, Emily Duckworth, Ciara and Tamara Horton, Ashlyn and Chantel Rooney; one great-grandson, Keenan Barton; brothers Al (Amelda) Rooney, Kenny (Marion Arsenault) Rooney and Leo (Lorraine) Rooney. He was predeceased by his daughters Viola Marie and Cindy Ann; parents, Bill and Mary (nee Murphy) Rooney; brothers, Joe and Wilbert “Jim”; sister, Frances "Fanny" MacKenzie. Resting at the Hennessey Funeral Home until Thursday morning then transferred to Our Lady of Assumption Church, Stratford, for funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment later in the family plot in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Wednesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of P.E.I. or the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Centre.
