Passed peacefully away on February 20, 2012, in the presence of his loving family, Lester (Les) Butler, age 75. Predeceased by his parents: Ellis and Florence; step-father Baxter Harris; first wife Beatrice; infant children: Linda and Susan; and brothers: Frank and Don Harris. Lovingly remembered by his devoted wife Kathleen. Also left to mourn are Lester’s three children and their families: Beverly and Paul Sears (Brad, Andrew and Jiselle), Laura and Doug Butler (Mandy and Kirk), Steve and Rose Butler (Jennifer and Chris). Lester will also be missed by his sister, Phyllis Saunders (Don); sisters-in-law: Edna Harris, Eileen Colbert (Tom), Bernadette Kirby (Ian); brothers-in-law: Kevin Colbert, Fred Colbert (Helen) and their families; as well as forever friend, Frank Williams. Les was well known in the sporting community as the founder of the Newfoundland Weightlifting Association and recognized for his contributions to his sport by various organizations including induction into the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Wednesday, February 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, from Topsail United Church at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
