Peter Grant Dunn

Dunn, Peter Grant – Middle Stewiacke, passed away peacefully February 21, 2012, surrounded by family, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born on January 13, 1938 in Hamilton, Ont., he was a son of the late Annie (Sharpe) Dunn and Peter Bowie. He was married to the former Hazel Mackenzie of Middle Stewiacke for 53 years. Peter joined the Navy at the age of 16, after which he began his talented cooking career working as a chef in prominent hotels in Halifax, was chief cook on the Bluenose II, and chief steward on oil tankers. He owned his own restaurants and catered many weddings and anniversaries. Peter and Hazel retired to Middle Stewiacke.
He is survived by foster mother, Rhea Halloway, Beamsville, Ont.; wife, Hazel; children, Grant (Diana), Wolfville; Elizabeth, Middle Stewiacke; Gregory, Swift Current, Sask.; Esther (Vernon) Crouse, Stewiacke. He was beloved Poppy of grandchildren, Courtney (Khris), Jenna (Lamar), Allan, Nathan, Jeremy, Alexander, Robert, Emily, Peter, Anna; great-granddaughter, Layla; brother of Ronald (Muriel), Halifax; Stanley (Peggy), and Robert, both of Hamilton, Ont. He was predeceased by brothers, Neil and John “Jack”.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, and funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, both in Middle Stewiacke United Church, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Middle Stewiacke United Church.
Thank you to the nurses on 7.3 at the Halifax Infirmary and 4 East of Colchester Regional Hospital for their care and consideration. Special thanks to EHS, First Responders and VON for their many visits and outstanding care.
