Margaret Smith
Margaret Smith of Springhill, Nova Scotia, passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital on Wednesday, February 22nd in her 90th year.
She was the daughter of Edward and Mae (MacDonald) Sonier of Amherst.
She attended St. Charles Academy and worked as a seamstress at Barkers Department Store until her marriage to Roy L. Smith of Springhill in 1941. She became a certified nursing assistant and worked at the All Saints Hospital for 35 years in Pediatrics. She had a great love for children and was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and loyal friend. She enjoyed music and had a talent for singing, and sang solos in many concerts in her younger years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, homemaking and spending time at her cottage in Heather Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1980, her son Jack Smith in 2006 and her good friend Jim Calder in 2006. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law Mary Lou Sonier and brother-in-law Lawrence Snook of Amherst and several aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her daughter Donna and son-in-law Dr. Harold Murray, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Jill Murray (David Ostien) Canmore, Alberta; grandsons Kent Murray (Jennifer Swinemar), New Glasgow and Paul (Jennifer) Murray, Halifax; great-grandchildren: Roy Keoughan, Ainslie, Burke and Annika Murray, Owen and Max Murray; her brother Reginald (Coleen) Sonier and Sister June Snook and their families.
Funeral services under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Home Springhill. Visitation Sunday, February 26th, 2-4 p.m. Church service to be held at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Family flowers only, donations in her memory to a charity of your choice or St. John the Baptist Church, Box 103, Springhill, NS, B0M 1X0.
Special thanks to Ruth Foster, Lucille Silvea and Elizabeth Boyce for their care and kindness enabling her to stay in her home until recently. To her neighbors Glen and Morna Wilson for all their help in the past. Thank you to Stewart and Chris Murray and family for all their visits and acts of kindness over the years as well to the extended Murray family.
Her excellent care at the Aberdeen Hospital was greatly appreciated. She will always be remembered with love and admiration.
