Emma leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Howard (Adeline), Ron (Inez); one daughter, Devrah Bryant; nine grandchildren, Kevin; Darren (Michelle), their children, Andrew and Noah: Jason (Deb), their children, Nadine, Nicole, and Jared: Tanya (Jon) Phillips, their children, Evan and Payton: Maureen (Pete) Stolt: Quinton (Chelsea), their children, Maddox, and Shea: Warren (Larissa): Courtney (Jason) Tweten, their children, Riley and Hannah: Sydnee Bryant; a sister, Irene Simison; brothers, Alvin and Wilfred Heffley; sisters-in-law, Elsie Steinley and Alma Heffley; and numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry, in 1993; her parents; a son –in-law, Paul Bryant; and by her brothers, Henry, Alex, David and Clarence. Emma was born at Alsen, North Dakota on March 17, 1918, to David & Julia Heffley. She moved with her family to the Rush Lake district at six months of age, attended Swan Lake School and was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in the Prairie View area. In 1936, she married Harry Steinley. They farmed with his dad for six years and then farmed in the Moscow School District for 11 years. In 1954, they established a dairy farm in the Rush lake Irrigation District. They farmed there until 1973, when they moved to Swift Current. Emma lived in her own home until 1997, when she moved to Heritage Towers and then to the Herbert Manor in 2011. The coffee pot and lunch was always on, no matter where she lived. Emma was always an industrious person, keeping boarders in her home, raising chickens, ducks and geese, milking cows and planting a huge garden. She won many prizes at the Swift Current Fair for her canning and baking. One of her favourite past times was curling, which she did in both Rush Lake and Swift Current. One of the fruits of her labour did not turn out so good, however, when the geese ate off all of the insulation on the wires of the truck. Grandpa was not impressed. That was the end of raising geese. She was the main helper on the dairy farm for many years. She really enjoyed coming out to the barn and helping with the chores. Her faith and her church were very important to Emma and she kept her family and friends in her prayers always. She was very active with all aspects of the church, but very involved with the ELW both at Peace and at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Bible Study was very important to her as well. Her Bible was marked with her favourite passages and she left us messages as to her favourite songs and Bible verses. Family was also very important and she was proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and more recently her great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 2 pm from the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Greg Keil officiating. Bible readings were read by Darren Steinley and Maureen Stolt with special music brought by Sydnee Bryant and Nicole Steinley. Kevin Steinley presented a tribute and Warren Steinley gave the eulogy. The ushers in the church were Gloria Hogg and Fern Johnston. The Interment Service was held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Donations in memory of Emma Steinley, made to the Regina Cancer Patient Lodge, St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to the Herbert Integrated Health Facility Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home.
