Mary Falconer
Mary Susan (Smith) Falconer, 89, Springhill, formerly of Cottage Road, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the Late Judge J.J. Smith and Mary Jane (O’Neil) Smith.
A devout member of Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s Parish, she was a Reservist in the 1950’s, worked as a telephone operator, and was a valued employee of the Smart Shop in Sydney for over forty years. She delighted in traveling, being with her family, and playing Tarbish with her devoted husband, Clarence. An avid card player, she was a member of a Sydney card club for decades. Following her husband’s sudden death in 2005, Mary made her home in Springhill with her only son, Clarence, and his wife, Elaine. With the help of new-found friends she adjusted well to her new environment, enjoying card games and becoming a member of the Seniors Association and the Rebecca’s.
Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Elaine Falconer, grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Boutilier, Tara (Derek Pye) Cypher, Jennifer (Jeremy) Boudreau, and Jo-D (Sheri) MacDonald; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Falconer Sr.; brothers, Jim, Tom, Wilfred, and Henry.
Arrangements under the care and direction of A. H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361). Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from the Funeral Home followed immediately at 2:00 PM by a Funeral Service with Father C. Donald Boudreau officiating. Burial at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, N. S.
