Gary Eugene "Bumpy" McCarthy

McCarthy, Gary Eugene “Bumpy” – 67, Truro, formerly of Stewiacke, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro on March 9, 2012. Born in Stewiacke, he was a son of the late Neil and Gladys (Andrews) McCarthy. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1960 – 1962. Gary was an electric motor repair technician for 50 years. He loved playing pool, cards and darts. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #26, Truro. He was a loving father and was affectionately known as “Bumpy” by his cherished grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his children Derek (Shelley), Truro; Dana (Monica), Barrington; Pam(Bruce) Trevors, Truro; grandchildren, Ashley (Trevor) Hunt, Katie McCarthy(Blake), Alison Trevors, Drew, Tomi, Michael and Derek McCarthy, step-grandchildren Ryan and Kyle Trevors, Mandi Malone; great-grandchildren Troy and Lydia Hunt; sister, Donna Jollota, Trenton; brother Kevin Jollota, Stewiacke, many nieces and nephews; several brothers and sisters-in-law. He will be greatly missed by Boyd, Jack and Uncle Bud. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Joan, sisters, Jean Jollota (mother), Bessie Weir, Marion McInnes, Catherine Sarty and Frances Schwartzenberger; brothers John and Calvin. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday March 13, 2012 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie, Rev. Lloyd Ripley officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 70 Stewiacke. A private family interment will take place in St. George’s Columbarium, Dutch Settlement, at a later date. Gary’s family would like to thank Dr. Courtney Smith, nurse Valerie Reid and all nurses and staff in the Palliative Care Unit for their incredible care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
