BILLINGTON - Jeanne aged 83 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan died on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre following a six month battle with cancer. She was born at Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan on June 21, 1928 and grew up in the farming community in the area. She attended Grace Country School and the Willow Bunch Convent. In 1944 she moved to Shaunavon and worked in Dollard at the department store until it closed and then worked at the Ohio café in Shaunavon. In 1946 she went to Moose Jaw and worked at Dairy Producers as an egg candler. In 1948 she returned to Shaunavon and worked at the creamery. In October 1949 she married Bob Billington and they lived on the farm. She continued working on a casual basis, while her children were young, eventually quitting as they started school. She began selling Avon, and as her children grew older she began working at Binkley’s Pharmacy. In 1980 she and Bob moved into Shaunavon and she began working at the South West Community Lodge. After retirement she sold Mary Kay. She enjoyed participating in ladies fastball, curling, achieving the rare accomplishment of an 8-ender, bowling, golfing, as well as bingo, puzzles, family camping trips, picnics and holidays travelling to be with relatives or hosting family celebrations. Jeanne was always busy. She hosted wedding showers and worked many census and elections. She enjoyed socializing, going to dances, playing cards and visiting neighbors. She served as a volunteer in many capacities, on boards such as curling, CWL, Royal Canadian Legion, Legion Ladies Auxiliary and served on the Shaunavon Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 27 years and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years. Jean served all positions at the Branch, Zone and District levels of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and served 2 years on the Provincial Board as President, after serving 4 years as 2nd and 1st Vice Chair. She received the Meritorious Service Award, being the highest honor achievable in the Auxiliary. In 2009 she received her CWL 25 year pin. She was predeceased by her husband Bob on December 30, 2000, her daughter Sandra on December 14, 1958, her father Arthur Lemieux on August 1, 1962, her mother Marie-Ange on December 29, 1981, and her sister Yolande Lemieux on May 22, 1959. She is survived by her son Ken (Janice) of Shaunavon; grandson Danny (Kendra) of Pincher Creek, AB and great grandchildren Ava, Eliana, Cameron and Danielle; granddaughter Cindy Cadieux (Tim) of Shaunavon and great grandson Samuel; granddaughter Missy McComish (Steve) of Pambrun and great granddaughter Kenna; her daughter Lorraine Oberle (Ralph) of Shaunavon and grandson Kelly (Tricia) of Shaunavon and great grandchildren Kaelyn, Mackenzie and Brock; granddaughter Tracy Bredahl (Darin) of Shaunavon and great grandson Dylan; her sister Bea Brochu of St. Albert, AB, her brother Larry Lemieux (Judy) of Lacombe, AB, her brother Jerry Lemieux (Donna) of Fort St. John BC, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held from Christ the King R.C. Church in Shaunavon on Monday, March 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Father John Mock officiating. Norma Hunter presented the eulogy and The Hunters provided special music. Interment took place at Veteran’s Memorial Gardens at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion formed a Guard of Honor and presented their tribute. A CWL Honor Guard was also in attendance. Prayer Services were held from Christ the King Church on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Oren Scribner, Don Hamilton, Lawrence Amon, Dale Brochu, Graham Lemieux and Darcy Lemieux.
