M. Jean Barrett
BARRETT, M. JEAN - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother M. Jean Barrett of East Saint John. She was born June 10, 1922 in Rexton, NB, and daughter of the late Francis P. and Alinda (Conroy) Fraser. She was predeceased by her husband Gerard O. Barrett in 1979, daughter Lynn Childs in 2005, infant children Francis and Catherine, and sisters Roberta Fraser and Sybil Pitre. Jean was a long time member of Stella Maris Parish and CWL, an avid bridge player, past member of the Duplicate bridge club and continued to play bridge weekly. She excelled at cooking and prepared feasts for many. Mom found her strength in love of family. She believed children were truly what made life worth living. Mother and Grandmother were roles she assumed naturally and fulfilled exceptionally. In many ways, she was a woman ahead of her time, brave, bold and strong enough to find comfort in God’s plan. She leaves an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew her. Deeply saddened by her loss are daughters Sybil Barrett, Regina Clarke (John), Patricia Barrett all of Saint John and Gerene Steele (Don) of Moncton; cherished grandchildren Anne Foley (Pat), Randy Clarke (Hayley), Michael Griffin (Laurie), Jennifer Griffin, Erin Steele, Jarrett Steele and Catherine Steele; great grandchildren Morganne and Ashlyn Foley, Brandon Clarke, Allie, Kate and Matthew Griffin and Jacob Perry. She is also survived by sister Doreen Livingstone of Saint John and brother Robert Fraser (Kay) of Riverview, and several nieces and nephews. She especially enjoyed the many visits from her nephew, Mark Livingstone.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Thursday, March 15 from 7 to 9 pm, Friday, March 16 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from Stella Maris Church on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
