JOHNSON, VALERIE MILDRED - It is with great sadness that the family of Valerie Mildred Johnson, wife of Raymond Johnson, announce her passing at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, NS, on Monday, March 12, 2012. Born in Saint John, NB on December 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late J. Francis and Anne (Walsh)Cullinan. Valerie was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Girls School and the St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, class of 1953. She worked as an operating room nurse at DVA Hospital. Valerie was an expert bridge player. She loved baking and spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to Raymond, her husband of almost 50 years, Valerie is survived by her children Anne Hirtle (Stephen) of Quispamsis, NB, Karen Dennison (Jeffery) of Tecumseh, Ontario and Peter Johnson (Rachel) of Beaver Bank, NS: grandchildren Sarah and Andrew Hirtle, Emma and Sophie Dennison and Adam and Laura Johnson; sisters, Betty Smith, Miramichi, NB, Theresa Chiarot (Dino), Victoria, BC; sisters-in-law Rita Cullinan, Ottawa, ON, Margaret Cullinan, Halifax, NS; brothers Frank Cullinan, Ottawa, ON, John Cullinan (Estella), Fredericton, NB, Donald Cullinan (Nora) and Bernard Cullinan (Cathy), both of Saint John, NB, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by brothers Louis and Gerald; sister and brother-in law Margaret and Vincent Whelton, and sister-in-law Barbara Cullinan.
Resting at Atlantic Funeral Home Dartmouth Chapel Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth, NS, with visitation on Tuseday, March 20, 2012 from from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church 1 Kuhn Drive, Dartmouth, on Wednesday at 11am. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
