Douglas O'Brien

The death of Douglas Arthur O'Brien, 83, of Joggins, occurred at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Born in Lower Maccan, Douglas was a son of the late Ernest and Gladys (Burbine) O'Brien.
In his early days, Doug had worked for CN on the railway and on the lake boats in Ontario. Following that, he had worked for the River Hebert Coal Mine for twenty-eight years. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending days at the camp with the boys. He enjoyed four wheeling and driving his grandson's motorcycle. He enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Doug will be sadly missed by his wife Dorothy (nee Arseneau) O'Brien. They would have been married sixty years on March 24. He will also be missed by five sons, Douglas (Connie), Boar's Back, Danny, River Hebert, Marty (Lori), Amherst, Jeff (Lynn), Joggins, Mike (Dorothy), Sackville, NB; two daughters, Anne (John) Reid, Joggins, Wendy (Marven) Snowdon, Woodpoint, NB, twenty-five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brother, Ernest (Bernice), Salmon Arm, BC; two sisters, Shirely (Ray) Dwyer, River Hebert, and Dorothy (Richard) Brander, North Bay, ON and two sisters-in-law, Joan and Marge.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son Harry, an infant daughter; two brothers, Frank (Ping) and Robert (Bobby) and one sister Ruth (Tudie) Dwyer.
Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong jones Funeral Home, River Hebert, from where visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 pm Sunday, March 25. A funeral will be held at 2 pm from the St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 26. Interment to be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Douglas may be made to a charity of one's choice.
