Lawrence Schulz

Lieu de décès : Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada
Date de décès : 15 mars 2012

SCHULZ - Lawrence Jacob, age 76, of Herbert, SK, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Herbert & District Integrated Facility. Lawrence will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Shirley Schulz; their children, Brian (Janet) Schulz, Teresa (Graham) Smith, Lorena (Brent) Doyle and Beryl (Warren) Braun; their grandchildren, Pamela (Clint) Mathies, Jenny (Shannon) Coombs, Kari (Adam) Ferguson, Dustin and Brett Smith, Trisha, Twyla and Ricki Doyle, Nathania and Cole Braun; their great grandchildren, Breya Coombs and Isaac Ferguson; and by his brother, Ron (Alice) Schulz. He was predeceased by his father, Jacob E. Schulz, in 1979; his mother, Linda Schulz, in 2005; and by his brother, Howard Schulz, in 1962. Lawrence grew up on a farm in the Greenfarm area. Farming was in his blood from the moment he was born and it became a passion that continued his entire life. He gave his life to Jesus while kneeling beside the tractor following a revival meeting and was baptised into the Greenfarm Church. He met his wife, Shirley, in January of 1959, and they were married on Sept 27, 1959. The verse they chose for their wedding was “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord” Joshua 24:15. This is the standard by which he lived his life and was an example to his family and friends. They began attending the Herbert MB Church where he became an active board member, youth leader and chief ranger in the Boys Brigade Program. His reliability and integrity did not go unnoticed as he volunteered his time serving on the Credit Union Board, Sask Wheat Pool Committee and helped to establish the Herbert Sports Complex where he ran the Sr. Men’s Monday night curling for many years. Lawrence worked hard but also knew how to have fun. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and joke around. He also enjoyed sports and outdoor activities, some of which included golf, fishing, baseball and curling with his friends. He enjoyed travelling and vacationing, especially with his family and a highlight each year was attending the gospel jamborees at Frenchman River Valley and at Sandy Creek. He loved to play cards, board games and pool. He was a proud father and grandfather and it gave him such pleasure to watch his children and grandchildren participate in activities. In June of 1998, he was diagnosed with a neurological disorder called Myasthenia Gravis but despite the worsening illness he rarely grumbled or complained about his discomfort or declining health. He found it difficult to give up farming and some of the activities he loved, but he continued to enjoy life to the fullest while maintaining his sense of humor and fun-loving attitude. His faith in Christ stayed firm and true right up until March 15, 2012, when he died peacefully in his sleep. He will be remembered by many whose lives were touched by his sincerity, generosity, humility and gracious spirit. We as a family would like to express our deepest gratitude for the unconditional support you have given him over the years and for the kindness you have shown to us all at this time. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 10:00 am from Herbert Mennonite Brethren Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle and Pastor Bob McKay officiating. The pianists for the service were Jennifer Shygera and Kim Fast. “It Is Well With My Soul” and “Because He Lives” were the hymns sung by the congregation. Special music was brought by Adam Ferguson playing “To the River” on Trumpet. Tributes were shared by Lawrence’s Grandchildren and by a PowerPoint presentation. Beryl Braun shared the Eulogy. The ushers in the church were Murray Martens and Ron Mathies. The Interment Service was held at Herbert Cemetery with the following Grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Dustin Smith, Brett Smith, Twyla Doyle, Adam Ferguson, Shannon Coombs and Clint Mathies. In memory of Lawrence Schulz, donations made to Westbank Bible Camp would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
