Peter Francis Joseph “Pete” Picco
Date de décès : 26 mars 2012
Passed away at home on Monday, March 26, 2012. Left to mourn and miss him forever are his four children and their families: Petrina and Edwin with sons Samuel and Noah; Judy and her sons, Eric and Daniel; Peter and Linda, and their daughter Lauren; and Allan and Nina. His wife of 25 years, Hughenia (MacDonald), stands with their children in mourning her husband. Pete was born August 18, 1948, in St. Joseph’s, Placentia Bay, to Ambrose J. and Laura Maude (Barron) Picco. One of twelve, he and his siblings loved life ‘round the bay, jumpin’ clampers and fishing off the wharf. The Picco family moved into Freshwater during resettlement. Peter worked in and around the community, owned businesses, participated in many programs for children, including the Cub Scouts and Karate. Peter was a man people looked to for help and always got it. He was resourceful and imaginative. If he couldn’t find it, he’d build it. He was inventive and creative, full of ideas and inventions. He loved music and song writing, especially the accordion music played by his mother and Great-Uncle Peter Barron of Freshwater. Predeceased by his brother Earl (Doreen), he will be missed by his siblings: Greg (Joan), Jim (Mary), Bernadette (Clyde), Ken (Donna), Gordon (Barbara-Ann), Donnie (Martin), Allan (Ursula), Doreen, Judy (Mark), and Gerard (Laurie), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends. This hero of man, with a heart of gold and a helping hand ever extended, will be missed greatly by the community at large. Known as “Peter from Placentia” to many of the VOCM listening audience, Peter spoke out on many issues affecting him personally and the lives of those around him. A viewing is tentatively set for Sunday, April 1st at Maher’s Funeral Home in Placentia. Please contact Maher’s Funeral Home for more information. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family at the Royal Bank.
“A Refuge for the poor,
a Shelter from the storm
This is our God
He will wipe away your tears
and return your wasted years
This is our God
A Father to the orphan,
a Healer to the broken
This is our God
And He brings peace to our madness
and comfort in our sadness
This is our God
A Fountain for the thirsty,
a Lover for the lonely
This is our God
He brings glory to the humble and crowns for the faithful
This is our God”
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff comfort me.
