NICOLSON: Boyd MacDonald was born on September 21, 1936 at Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and passed away peacefully at Cypress Hills Regional Hospital, Swift Current on March 22, 2012 with his family at his side. Boyd attended Rock Creek and Voll Schools before taking over the family farm at a young age. He farmed side by side with his brothers in a mixed cattle and grain operation. He retired from farming in 2004. In 1961, Boyd married Helen Gardner. Boyd and Helen had four children; Sheila born in 1962, twin girls Laurie and Leanne in 1964 and Steven in 1967. In his younger years Boyd enjoyed numerous hunting and fishing trips. He spent many happy hours as a member of the Shaunavon Rock Club and liked to work with his hands. Boyd served on the Duncairn Dam Cabin Owners Association and also the Swift Current Creek Watershed Association. The thing he cherished the most was the time spent with his family. Boyd was predeceased by wife Helen, his daughters Leanne and Sheila; his mother Mary, father Alexander; his sisters Jessie, Beth and Maisie; his brothers Sinclair, Ian, Donald, Swanston and Gordon. He is survived by his daughter Laurie (Brad) Richardson and their children, Devon and Tyrell; his son Steven (Terry) Nicolson and their daughter Kennedy Fenell; his granddaughter Kimberley (Jason) and great granddaughter Ava; his partner Loretta Trozzo and her sons Walter, Duane and Tim; and sister Sheila Crawford. Funeral Services were held from Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ken Schrag officiating. Pastor Alex Allan presented the eulogy. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or the Rotary House in care of Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Pallbearers were Steven Nicolson, Sheldon Nicolson, Donald Gardner, Philip Lewans, Lawrence Amon and Ken Billington.
