The death of Earl J. Gagnon, 83 years of age, of Amherst, occurred Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late Alphe & Laura (Bourgeois) Gagnon.
Family was very important to Earl, and he enjoyed spending time at the cottage with family and friends. Those who knew him could always count on Earl to lend a helping hand. He also enjoyed listening to music.
Earl will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, the former Madge Mason; daughters, Shirley Ann (Richard) Porter, of Amherst, Carolyn (Michael) Ferguson, of Amherst, Donna (Stephen) Lines, of Amherst, Michelle (Greg
Johnson) Morse, of Winnipeg, MB; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Donald; sisters, Catherine Quesnell, Amherst, Margaret Fagan, Amherst, Theresa Gorman, Miramichi, NB and Betty Ann Pettigrew, Amherst; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Goodwin; grandchildren, Mark and Stephen; brothers, Stanley, Leo, Donald & Harry.
Earl's remains have been entrusted to Furlong-Jones Funeral Home , 70 Church St. Amherst, N.S. (667-8777) where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Family Parish on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 10 am with Father Vernon Driscoll officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery at a later date.
