Ralph Anthony Morrison

Lieu de naissance : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada

Lieu de décès : Dartmouth, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 6 avril 2012

Ralph Anthony Morrison passed away suddenly but peacefully on April 6, 2012, at Bissett Court after a 12-year struggle with Alzheimers disease.
Ralph was born in Sydney in 1931 to parents Daniel and Katie (MacKinnon) Morrison.
After graduation from Normal School in Truro (Nova Scotia Teacher’s College) his 39-year career as an industrial arts teacher began at Riverview High, Coxheath. He then taught at Ashby School in Sydney and in 1966 he and his family moved to Dartmouth. He taught at Ellenvale Jr. High, where he finished his teaching years. Ralph enjoyed his cottage at Molega Lake — swimming, waterskiing, tubing and boating with family and friends. He especially enjoyed the times that he, Theresa and his daughter Andree hosted the Nova Scotia Canada Games X-country ski team.
After retirement he enjoyed travelling to places warm and cold. Together with his wife Theresa and sometimes family and friends they visited most Caribbean Islands. They had three enjoyable cruises one of which was to Mexico with family members. Their travels also took them to Hawaii and Abu Dhabi. The cold trip was X-country skiing in Labrador City.
As the Alzheimers disease began to rob him of his cognitive ability he was still physically well and continued to waterski and swim and exercise until 2007. Ralph was a patient at the Halifax Infirmary from 2007 until 2009 at which he was admitted to Shannex-Bissett Court, Long Term Care Facility.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theresa (Blazey) Morrison; his daughters, Maureen Morrison, Dartmouth, Bev Morrison (David Birtwhistle) and their children Adam and Liam Birtwhistle, Ottawa, Andree Morrison, Oman and PEI, Jody Morrissette and her children, Jonelle, Claire and Ariane, Winnipeg, Man. His sisters, Virginia Dowling, Calgary, Sr. Teresa Maria Morrison, CND, Sydney, Sr. Kathleen Marie Morrison, Sr. St. Martha, Bethany, Antigonish; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Morrison, Sydney; his brothers, David Morrison and his wife Geneva, Patrick (Lindy), Alliston, Ont.
He was predeceased by his sister, Sr. Mary C. Morrison CND, his brothers, Ramsay and John and his sister-in-law, Teresa (Tessie) Morrison.
Many thanks to Dr. Chris MacKnight and Dr. Connidis who attended to him at the Halifax Infirmary and Dr. Ellen Jost and Dr. Oliver who were his physicians at Bissett Court. A sincere thank you to the staff at Bissett Crt. — Morash Household and his friend Dr. Shu Yoon who were with him and his wife and daughter Maureen during his final 18 hours, especially Audrey who was with Ralph at the time of his death.
Our sincere thanks to Nadine Christenson Ralph’s personal caretaker for five years while he was in the Infirmary and at Bissett Court. Thanks to the many clergy who visited and prayed with him while in the Infirmary and Bissett Crt. Namely, Archbishop Emeritus James Hayes, Fr. Owen Connelly, Fr. C. Burke.
Ralph was a person of ‘faith’. We are certain that he was comforted by the prayers of those who came to see him at Bissett Crt. — Fr. Irek Bem, Fr. Ed Grant and Fr. Randy Doucet who administered the Sacrament of the Sick, on Holy Thursday. Ralph’s brain was donated to Dalhousie Alzheimers Medical Research. The remains have been cremated.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia or Feed Nova Scotia would be appreciated.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11 from 2-4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Parish, corner of Caledonia Road and Main Street at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12. Reception to follow in the church hall which is wheelchair accessible.
