Gladys Elizabeth Cooke
Cooke, Gladys Elizabeth – 91, Bible Hill, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 28, 1920, in Bass River, she was a daughter of the late John and Bessie Gamble. In 1935 she moved to Hilden, where she married Gerald Cooke and raised their family. She was a former employee of Brookfield Foods (Scotsburn Dairy) in Truro and Port Hawkesbury. She and Gerry retired to the Truro area in 1981. Gladys was a member of Hilden United Church, life member of the UCW, charter member of the Marigold Guild of Needle Arts and member of the Fundy Family Geneaology Group. Gladys is survived by daughters Margaret Bruce, Bible Hill, and Eleanor Instant (Ernest), Abbotsford, B.C.; son David Cooke (Jean), London, Ont.; grandchildren Steve Bruce (Margo), Dartmouth; Carolyn Johnson, Brantford, Ont.; Kim Instant, Williams Lake, B.C.; David Instant (Sheryl), Coquitlam, B.C.; and Brian Cooke (Nikki), Zurich, Ont.; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends across Canada. She is also survived by sister Lucille Seaman, New Glasgow, and sisters-in-law Mildred Cooke, Bible Hill, and Jean Hamilton (Don), Brookfield. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Gerald, who also passed away on Easter Sunday in 2003, sister Genevieve Fisher and brother Douglas Gamble. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, where visitation will be held 6:30-8:30p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 12. Cremation has taken place, with interment to follow at the Hilden Cemetery at a later date.
