SMITH, NELSON - With his family by his side, Nelson Thomas Smith of Arthurette passed away peacefully at the Grand Falls General Hospital on April 9, 2012. Nelson was born on September 21, 1922 in Odell he was the son of the late Charles and Lena (Finnamore) Smith. He leaves behind his loving wife of over 60 years Iona Smith; his children Naida Finnamore (Gailen) of Arthurette, Roger Smith of Toronto; his grandchildren Tara Cyr (Luc) of Perth-Andover, Nelson Finnamore of Arthurette; his great grandchildren Logan and Liam Cyr of Perth-Andover; his sister Leona Giberson of Plaster Rock; his brother Donald Smith (Mavis) of Arthurette; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two infant sons; sisters Elva Stacey and Marion Davenport; brothers Clifton, Roy, and Wayman Smith. Nelson was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Arthurette, Branch No. 85. He was also a school bus driver for over 35 years before his retirement.
Resting at the Tobique Chapel in Plaster Rock with visitation on Wednesday 7 to 9 pm and Thursday 1 to 2 pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 2 pm from the Tobique Chapel. Interment will follow in the Arthurette United Baptist Cemetery. There will be a Legion Memorial Service held at the chapel on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home, Perth-Andover and Plaster Rock.
