Maurice Melnyk
MELNYK, MAURICE - July 9, 1923 - April 1, 2012 - Saint Bruno, Quebec, Maurice Melnyk died peacefully at Hospital Charles Le Moyne in his 89th year, leaving behind his wife of 59 years, Doris Simpson Melnyk. Also survived by his brother Edward Melnyk (Carmen), sister-in-law Jean Henry (Stuart), brother-in-law Dan Simpson (Valores), many nieces and nephews. Maurice was predeceased by his only son, Gerry Melnyk, his brother Steve Melnyk, and parents Fred and Charlotte Melnyk. Maurice was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Montreal, and then Bachelor of Education from Mount Allison University, in Sackville, New Brunswick. Maurice was a career educator, starting his career as a Principal at Back Bay High School, moving to Sackville, NB, Ayers Cliff, QC, Huntington, QC, Noranda, QC, St. Bruno, QC and Montreal QC. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Dialysis Unit at Charles Le Moyne Hospital for their excellent care during his last five years while he received hemo-dialysis.
Arrangements have been made through Urgel Bourgie, 1559, rue Montarville, Saint Bruno. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maurice's memory can be made to the charity of your choice. No service or visitation will take place in Saint Bruno. In July, a burial of his ashes will take place with a memorial service at the St. George Rural Cemetery, where he will be with his son Gerry. As well, friends and family will gather for a celebration of Maurice's life in his beloved L'Etete, New Brunswick.
