Charles Chapman

Chapman, Charles Alva
Charles Alva Chapman of Moose Jaw, SK passed away at Providence Place on April 3, 2012. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters. Al is survived by his loving wife Edna, son Brent (Irene), daughter Robin (Ian), grandchildren Amanda and Aidan, and great-grandchildren Emma and Chloe. Al was born in Rosetown, SK on Jan 27, 1926. He attended school in his hometown of Tuberose, SK. Following high school he studied telegraphy and was employed by Canadian Pacific as an operator and station agent – a career lasting from 1947 to 1988 – his last position being in Moose Jaw. In 1951 he married Edna and so started their life of moving to different places as his job required. In 1961 the family moved to Eyebrow, SK where they continued to reside for several years after his retirement. Al was very community minded and served on the Eyebrow Village Council, and as mayor for several years. He also served on the board of Central Butte Regency Manor. In 1998 he received an honorary membership in The Sask Urban Municipal Assoc. While on Eyebrow Council he promoted the planting of trees in the village, many of which he planted himself, and the development of the Centennial Park. He loved the outdoors and each year looked forward to gardening and the return of the birds to his backyard. The family has many happy memories of camping and fishing trips, traveling by train on a CP Pass to parts of Canada, and a special holiday in Europe in 1978. In 1996 Al & Edna moved to Moose Jaw where he continued to enjoy working in his yard and volunteering at the Western Development Museum in the railway area. At Al’s request there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date, when a tree can be planted in his memory. Memorial donations to The Moose Jaw School Lunch Program, c/o PSSD, 15 Thatcher Drive E, Moose Jaw, SK, S6J 1L8 or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Thank you to Extendicare and Providence Place Staff for the care and kindness shown to Al Chapman and his family. Arrangements are entrusted to Parkview Funeral Chapel. Blair Scott & Kelly Cameron, Funeral Directors. (306) 694-5500. Please sign our online book of condolences at www.parkviewfuneralchapel.ca
