Jim Miles
Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 8 avril 2012
It is with tremendous heart break and sorrow that we regret to announce the untimely and unfair passing of my husband and best friend, our amazing, one of a kind father and the most loving grandfather and great-grandfather, Jim Miles. Jim lived for his wife Carolyn and his children and passed on at his home on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, with his wife and children by his side.
We cannot say our dad fought a courageous battle against cancer. An early and accurate diagnosis might have given our dad the chance to fight this horrible disease.
Jim had a personality that was bigger than life. Those who knew Jim will always remember his beautiful infectious smile and his amazing singing voice as well as his ability to entertain a crowd for which he had a God-given gift.
Jim and his wife Carolyn and family operated the Lord Fin and Feather restaurants locally and in Alberta for over 35 years.
Jim loved to travel with his wife Carolyn and was fortunate enough to enjoy his last trip to Florida, before he took ill.
In Jim’s early years, he coached hockey and baseball and supported many local clubs and organizations. Jim was a diehard Leafs fan and thought for sure this would be their year.
Jim was proud to have been involved in both the Cursillo and Challenge movements in the past and was honoured to be involved with both. Jim loved to participate in several church choirs over the years, by gracing everyone with his gift of song. He was very proud to be a friend of Bill W and helped so many people obtain the same friendship. There was so much about Jim and what he meant to us and his countless accomplishments and selfless acts of humanity and those of you who were touched by his kindness, will keep it in your hearts.
Jim is survived by his wife and best friend of 48 years, Carolyn; his daughters, Debbie (Chris), Luanna and son, Jimmy and wife, Bernice. Poppies grandchildren, Taylor, Miranda, Sarah, Josh, Justin, Jestice, Courtlind, Jeremy and Leah. And Poppies great-granddaughters, Payten and Brooklyn. He is also survived by sisters, Marlene, Ann and twin sister, Rita Daley and her family Carol, Jimmy, Bobby and Derrick; mother-in-law, Annie Fraser; in-laws, Beverly (William) Holm, Harriet (Joseph) Higgins and Alex (Helena) Fraser. And all of his nieces and nephews who will miss their beautiful uncle Jimmy.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Annie Miles of Glace Bay, brother, Richard and sister, Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to An Cala unit, fourth floor, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Special thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the amazing doctors and nurses at An Cala, fourth floor, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, whose genuine care and concern was of great support to us in our most difficult time.
Many thanks for the love and support we were graced with from our family and friends.
At Jim’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion. The Rev. Joe Gillis will be officiating.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
